Navelbine and Ears

Hello to all. I am having a hard time with Navelbine. Until now it was either constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, pains and neuropathy. My onc lowered the dose by 30% the last 2 weeks. I had Zometa for the first time last week with the Navelbine. I wanted to hold out at least 6 months. But all of a sudden my both ears are like plugged, as if I came out of the water. I am in a fog. My hearing is not as good. I am frightened. It has been 5 days now. I have no ringing or pain. Did this happen to anybody? Is it reversible? I did not read this toxicity on the list of side effects. Should I stop Navelbine?

Have you been to a doctor? Perhaps it's not chemo related but an ear infection going on.

Michka, I got the same trouble with my ears (one worse than the other). I blamed the Zometa. Oncologist checked my ears, small area of inflammation and he recommended paracetamol, it cleared it up. Hope it works for you too. Best wishes.

Thank you for reassuring me. I am silly! Since I have no pain in the ears and no cold I didn't even think it could be an infection. I took paracetamol but it made no difference. I'll have that checked.... and I have to stop imagining the worse. Michka

Re: Navelbine and Ears

Bon Jour Michka,
I had some problems with my ears and discovered it was from taking nexium for acid reflux. When you take it long enough, it inhibits your body's ability to absorb vitamin B12. I stopped taking it and started taking B12 and now my ears are fine. Not sure if it will help you, but worth a thought. I also had severe bone pain and fatigue for a week after my first infusion of Zometa. It got easier the longer I was on it. It has also done a number on my kidneys, so do be aware to drink lots of fluids in the 24 hours after your infusion.
On another note, my daughter is moving to Paris in August with her job. She works for Arevia in Wash. D.C. and just took a job in Paris. I hope to be able to afford a trip to visit her sometime soon.
Take care and remember we ALL have our silly moments of fear. You are not alone.
Emelie

Hoping the ear issues have cleared and things are looking up for you. In this cancer world we live in, we have a right to be scared, it comes with the territory...
