Alcohol and recurrance?
Hello,
What is the latest information on the effect of consuming alcohol and recurrence of breast cancer? I heard that research was presented at San Antonio, supports this. Am I putting myself at higher risk for recurrence? I enjoy a daily glass of wine. Thanks. Brenda |

Brenda,
These findings remain controversial. Here is a link to a thread on that topic in the nutrition forum: http://her2support.org/vbulletin/sho...eferrerid=1173 Hopeful |
Re: Alcohol and recurrance?
I think I drink more after bc than before!!!!!
I think all in moderation is okay, but who knows??? |
Re: Alcohol and recurrance?
Wine (one glass/day) is supposed to be good for the heart and possibly have some other benefit. Since you are PR- ER-, a glass of wine shouldn't be a problem. Please check with your doctor for confirmation.

I must admit I, too, drink a bit more now since bc. Wine & wine tasting is a big part of our social scene. I grew up in the Australian wine country, and now live in Washington State.
My husband and I really enjoy our wine with the evening meal, and with friends on a weekend. Keeps me happy, and I just celebrated 8 years since diagnosis with a trip to Australia and Hawaii - just now adjusting to the Pac. Northwest weather again! -Marianne |

Ooops, I didn't mean to attach a BIG photo of myself in that last post! It was just supposed to be my avatar.

Re: Alcohol and recurrance?
Re: resveratrol... my naturopath suggests that I drink good quality organic grape juice and cranberry juice and gain equal benefit to red wine. (in answer to my question: historically I am not really a wine drinker except on special occasion, should I drink one glass of red wine a day to get resveratrol?)
I drink a beer or a margarita 3x or 4x a month... but I also know that I don't want to ever over-tax my liver or make it weaker in any way. So, I often reconsider in the moment. But usually I let myself enjoy a little, in extreme moderation. |
Re: Alcohol and recurrance?
The discusstion led me to the kitchen pull out the bottle of Resvinatrol Complete: For Your Heart (Advanced Resveratrol: CoQ10 & Omega 3 Formula.)
It tastes a little bit like wine. I'm thinking for wine lovers perhaps there can be a 'half & half' (not the 'Half & Half':) mixing the two together like a fruit cocktail. This way one reduces the alcohol intake and benefits from a double dose of Reseratrol as well. On the label it states: "The Secret of Red Wine for Total Heart Health." Most doctors advice their patients to quit smoking/drinking for better health, so perhaps it is a better choice. One of the favorite statements Chinese (drinkers) make is: "Drinking hurts one's liver while sobering hurts one's feeling (same word for 'heart'). In choosing between the two, I'd rather hurt my liver instead of hurting my heart." Definitely not a statement for the AA meetings. Hmm... maybe I should start to take care of my heart. :) |
