trach/peg tube?

thanks for the replys. The Dr. came in yesterday and took one look at Luke and he said , this is a very sick man. uh duh.. The game plan is to wait until sometimes next week and then see how Luke is doing.. They have been trying to decrease the vent
He (Luke) just stares at me.. no sign now of who I am or anything.
The Dr. said if not more headway, he is thinking about putting in a trach and put in a peg tube for his nutritional status.
I know my husband (of 26 years), does NOT want this done.I am lukewarm on the idea myself.
This news today is causing confusion among the family.I am so, so tired.. I think I will try to catch a small nap..
thanks to all who replyed and even to those who didn't. I serve a miracle working God and I believe he will show what has to be done.
Charlotte
I left his room , thinking HOW I have to handle this situation.

Charlotte,

You are right about a miracle working God. I'm praying for you, your husband and discernment during this decision making process.

Charlotte,

These are such difficult times for you and your Luke. I pray that God gives you peace so that decisions are easier to make. I too believe in a God of miracles.

Love, Alice

Dear Charlotte -
My Mom believed in a God of miracles when she allowed my Dad who had a VERY precarious heart and developed MRSA after intervention from cardiac arrests, following a 7-way bypass operation.

Mom decided to go with the option presented of doing the trach/PEG and Dad existed as a small shadow of his former self never able to get off his vent and being confined to a few square feet of living space, until he developed an infection and passed away several very expensive months later.

PM me and I can give you some "experience" that they fail to mention with offering these life extending devices. I surely hope your hubby will show some improvement and give you a sign as to what to do. I feel for you in a time like this.
