elevated liver enzymes

does any one know what they could mean? I am on tykerb and herceptin,
stopped tykerb for 2 weeks canceled herceptin for they are trending up. i have a right upper quadrant ache. ultra sound negative gallbladder. they are redoing blood work in 2 weeks and CT.

Dear Robin

Markers can mean anything. What matters most is if they have ever meant anything to you in the past? Do or did you have liver mets? Right upper quadrant pain can point to the liver or the ribs or just aches and pains of treatment. Many of us have had this kind of pain but it was nothing after a scan. The most important thing is to make sure you get it checked out and it seems that you are. I am sorry you have some aching as it is just as scary whether it is something or not. You will know soon and if you can't stand the waiting, call your onc so the scan can get moved up.

Make sure to let us know how you are doing and don't be afraid to post if you need support. We are here for you.

Elevated liver enzymes

I had them and I had a PET that was neg. and I had a liver biopsy that showed "fatty liver". I having the liver cleared I was okayed to have my bilateral breast reconstruction with abdominoplasty (TRAM). My gastroentologist but me on Acticall, lecithin and Vit. E. I have only been taking it for one month, and I'm anxious to get my liver enzymes redone. Currently I am taking Herceptin IV every three weeks. I also am unable to loose weight. Please let me know what you find out. Thanks

Thank you for your replies and concern.

Robin,
I replied to another thread of yours as another liver enzyme watcher.

I am very pleased that your Drs are performing tests to make sure that they figure the trend out.

I too had elevated liver enzymes coming off of 6 rounds of Taxotere + Herceptin. It seemed odd that while I was on all of the super strength drugs that the enzymes were fine. But...they rose by about 30 points 2 months after the chemo completion. This lasted for 2 rounds of testing. Not certain why, but they recently settled themselves down.

What is a hidascan?

Please don't fret too much if you have to have a liver biopsy. When then told me I was going to have one early in this journey it sounded HORRIBLE. Maybe I still still in a shock but I did not find the procedure to be too painful. It sounds worse than it is.

I am certainly behind you..cheering you on....Lori

liver enzymes

Hi,
I had elevated liver enzymes the first time I took Adrainmycin and Taxotere in 2000, but they went back to normal after one or two weeks. I would speak up and check it out though. Better to be safe than sorry.

robint 06-03-2008 06:42 AM

all the test have been negative to date, Enzymes still high, alk phos, alt, ast, now billirubin is elevated slightly, testing every week and going up about 30 points each time no drugs for 6 weeks. frustrated for we are at to possibilities, toxic liver that may have damaged a portion and continuing to progress or mets that are not obvious on ct. I cannot have mri, for expanders
i think we will repeat ultra sound. we are waiting to see if they will trend down, then schedule biopsys.

thanks

What was the outcome of this?

Very interested to know how you are doing now. Have your doctors checked to see if your bile duct is being blocked by a stone or is inflamed with bacterial infection?

Not to worry, if it is the bile duct, they will put in a stent and you will be FINE and all the liver enzymes will normalize and the Alk phos and the bilirubin will go down. However, get on it, as if you don't --the bilirubin will build and you will turn yellow all over and risk liver failure if your liver enzymes approach 800 ALERT...

fyi,
Gina
