Question for mom - scared

Hi all, My mom has been on herceptin since January 2005, and aredia as well. This last September she had a CAT scan which indicated activity in the Lymphnodes under her right arm. The Oncologist started her on Xeloda. She did not tolerate it well. She vomited after 7 days and lost her appetite as well (She is only 85 Pounds). She tried again after a week off and on the fifth day got Diarreha. She again stopped the Xeloda, the next day she threw up again but not as bad, she also ran a low grade fever one day never went over 100 degrees. Doctor told her to stop again and wait awhile and start again. So this last Tuesday the 22nd she went in for her Herceptin treatment like always. Today the Oncologist called and said some # in her Blood work was slightly down, she cant remember what it was, but her wants her to go get an ultrasound of her kidneys and he also advised her to drink alot of fluids, and that he wants her off the aredia for awhile, and not to take the Xeloda till we know whats going on. Now my mom has a severe fear of swallowing pills so she broke up the Xeloda pills when she took them and she also had to take one while at the Drs office having her Aredia treatment. He said it could be dehydration or Kidney stones, but my mom is nervous(worrying about further mets) and I was wondering if anyone here had this problenm with Xeloda , because it seems to have been the Xeloda that caused this problem. I really appreciate any info , I am sorry this is so long, but you all have always been such a comfort to my mother and myself. God Bless !!

Love Donna

Herceptin/Xeloda

Hi,
I don't know anything about Xeloda, but please tell your mom to keep talking to the doc until he or she listens. There might be some other combo that he or she can prescribe that will keep the cancer under control and not do so much damage.
