No family history - any point in genetic testing for me?

My oncologist advised me that I didn't need genetic testing, as there is no family history of breast cancer. Can't it just start, I asked? Apparently the likelihood of that is so small, it isn't appropriate to test me.
I have 2 daughters aged 14 and 16. My oncologist advised that they should start having mammograms at 40 rather than the 50 which is currently given to women on the National Health Service here in the UK.
I'd welcome any thoughts on whether or not there is any point or reason for me to get tested.
Thank you!

Well, I have no family history! In fact, I was assued I would probably never get it! So....I have asked my daughters to get examed starting at 30, at least a baseline.

My rad onc still recommended that I get it even though I was the first in the family to get it. Haven't yet. I read that your daughters should start getting mammos at ten years off the age you were diagnosed. I was 41, so my girls should go at 31.

I didn't have any family history either, but my dad was adopted and we don't know anything about his blood line, cancer-wise. So, I decided to get tested so I could let my nieces and nephews know. I came back negative. For now. Until they identify other gene lines...
