Calcium Recommendation

Please recommend a good Calcium plus magnesium for me to take. Should it also include Vit. D (I know I need to take Vit. D) but is the Vit. D included with the Calcim plus magnesium?

Thank you,

Mary Jo

I take OsCal plus D (500 mg of Calcium and 200iu of D). I take Magnesium separately because calcium and magnesium taken separately (ie: take a calcium at breakfast and dinner and take the magnesium at lunch) absorp better. I take 500mg of magnesium at lunch. I use GNC brand but any will do. I recommend NOT to buy an all in one calcium and magnesium.

If anyone has information that is different from this, please post as I have done alot of research on this and not mixing the Ca and Mg (taking together at the same time).

Thank you Becky. I did buy Oscal plus D but is has 500 mg. of calcium and 400 IU of D. The bottle does say to take twice daily also. It is a tablet to swallow though and not a chewable. At least I don't think it is chewable. Also, the Magnesium only came in 250 mg. tablets. I was looking for 500 mg. tablets but there was none. So two at a time it will be at lunch.

I take Viactiv, which is a "chewable" calcium, K, and D; it's like a caramel and comes in different flavors, chocolate being my favorite LOL! Each one has 500 mg calcium, 200 IU's of D and 40 mcg of K. I also take a magnesium supplement that my onc prescribed that I get from my pharmacy, 400 mg.

BUT, I didn't know they shouldn't be taken with the calcium, THANKS for the heads up Becky, I trust your knowledge in this.

I will take my calcium at breakfast and dinner and the magnesium at lunch.

Calcium citrate is better absorbed than calcium carbonate by approximately 22% to 27%, either on an empty stomach or co-administered with meals. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
