Bone Fractures.

Has anyone else experienced bone fractures from treatment? I finished my chemo (FEC 100, Taxotere, Xeloda) with Herceptin in October and then continued Herceptin with mastectomy, and RADS finishing one year of Herceptin in June. In December, I tripped and fell and fractured my pelvis...then in June I tripped and fractured my elbow and some ribs...(Sort of clumsy after all this treatment). I had bone density scan and do have low bone density so am taking actonel and calcium...but none of this was a problem before. Just wondered if anyone knows if the drugs I've taken can reduce bone density? I just turned 60 so my age is certainly a factor, but my family history is that these problems don't show up for another 10 years or so.

thanks.
Peggy

Please see the posts on omega threes and bone density, and magnesium calcium and bone density.

You should be able to find them using the search facility above. Click on search and enter the search terms.

If you cannot find them please come back.

Yes, my onc says that chemo definitely causes bone density loss. I'm sure type of drugs would make a difference. I had AC/T (3 years ago) and he said it could take up to 3 years for my bone density to level out from the chemo and femara.

Thanks

Thank you for giving me info about the Omega 3 ( I had been following the discussions but hadnt really related to bone density) and that chemo does cause bone density loss...now I just need to work on not tripping for 3 years!

Peggy
I fractured a rib while sneezing...and on Herceptin only!

I broke a bone in my foot, while walking across the street in rubber soled shoes (no heel)!

My bone density came back as severe osteoporosis of the spine, and moderate else where. I was started on Fosamax the next morning.

Oh my

Hmmm...no tripping, no sneezing, and no crossing the street....this may be an interesting 3 years.

Thanks for the info...it really helps to know that others are having as much fun as I am.
