*****omega Six Spurs Cancer Cells To Divide****

Another abstract on melatonin and cancer but the real bombshell for me is this

Omega six = linoleic acid found in high quanitities in corn safflower sunflower walnut soy Evening primrose many of which are to be found in processed foods margarines etc. IF this topic is new to you see "Omega three omega six the importance to breast cancer" and the "breast cancer diet" on the articles of interest section.

ABSTRACT

In further experiments, Blask's team determined that melatonin blocks cancer cells' metabolism of linoleic acid, a polyunsaturated fat that's abundant in food. The same team had previously shown that 13-hydroxyoctadecadienoic acid, the product of linoleic acid metabolism, spurs cancer cells to divide.

Abstract

Melatonin is an important inhibitor of cancer growth promotion while the essential polyunsaturated fatty acid, linoleic acid is an important promoter of cancer progression. Following its rapid uptake by tumor tissue, linoleic acid is oxidized via a lipoxygenase to the growth-signaling molecule, 13-hydroxyoctadecadienoic acid (13-HODE) which stimulates epidermal growth factor (EGF)-dependent mitogenesis. The uptake of plasma linoleic acid and its metabolism to 13-HODE by rat hepatoma 7288CTC, which expresses both fatty acid transport protein and melatonin receptors, is inhibited by melatonin in a circadian-dependent manner. This inhibitory effect of melatonin is reversible with either pertussis toxin, forskolin or cAMP. While melatonin inhibits tumor linoleic acid uptake, metabolism and growth, pinealectomy or constant light exposure stimulates these processes. Thus, melatonin and linoleic acid represent two important environmental signals that interact in a unique manner to regulate tumor progression and ultimately the host-cancer balance.

Thanks AL

Interesting article, and good as general background but fairly generalised very safe ground and certainly not cutting edge.

For example a lack of clinical trials - There are a VAST amount of clinical trials on the benifits of omega three. Go to NCBI and type in any inflamatory related diease and omega three for example.

For example recommended in take based on content of breast milk. The contents of people fat is a reflection of what they eat, and so is breast milk - if average intakle was closed to 1:1 n3 to n6 breast milk would be closer. It is interesting that the British omega 3 to six is about 5. Reports suggest in Australia it is 10:1 and the US up to 50:1.

Also the chart shows cox's on both pathways but gives no indications of the series etc.

I would guess you have but if not have a look at the omega three six and breast cancer on the articles of interest. I would be interested in what you think.
