Please see these links from an online journal called breastcancerupdate. The journal features interviews with "research leaders" about topics of interest for breast cancer researchers and clinicians.

I've supplied links that might be of interest. See particularly the interview with Eric Winer, head of breast oncology at Dana Farber, who says he could not fault any doctor who gave herceptin off protocol to a woman with inflammatory breast cancer. Others of these doctors (Pegram for instance) also hint at how they have considered using herceptin off label. George Sledge and Debu Tripathy both speak to the likely success of adjuvant herceptin trials.

Somewhere that I can't now find, Larry Norton of Sloan Kettering (innovator of the dose dense approach) said about a year ago that he'd bet his hat that the adjuvant herceptin trials would come out well.

Hope these help.

Jeff, thank you so much for your help. I found the comment by Dr. Weiner very interesting especically where I had already been to Dana Farber and was shot down. I faxed the information to my oncologist today. Once again many many thanks. Claudia
