You've been told wrong.

I'm sure that Christine, this site's founder, would be more than happy to fill you in on both treatments. She has survived brain mets and is an expert on the subject. You can e-mail directly at Christine@HER2support.org. You also might want to go to this site's home page/Metastatic Brain Tumors/Tests and Treatments. There you'll find information on both treatments. Best of luck in your hunt for the best treatment.

Love and healing light,

Lisa

I have had the cybernkife procedure for 3 brain tumors each under 1cm and I dont know yet what the results are- have to wait another couple of months but I feel pretty good . I dont know what the size restriction is but there are others on this site that have had that or the gamma knife- Hopfully they will post their experiences- Good Luck-

Dear Pat,
I have had five seperate treatments for brain mets: three Stereotactic Radiosurgeries (much like GammaKnife) and two CyberKnife treatments. These treated a total of 16 brain mets. I had two, four, four and six treated (the six were treated in two CK procedures a few days apart).

There have been no personality changes. My first dx with brain mets was in Sept of '02 with first treatment that month; nearly 19 months ago.

you can do a search on this site at top of page to find reference to brain mets or any one of the several treatments that are available.

best of luck to you,
pattyz

I'm most definitely thinking about those procedures, too!!! Hadn't heard about personality changes, though. Georgetown U. does CyberKnife. WBR and chemo hasn't done much for my dizziness at all, so I WANT SOMETHING MORE.

Any experiences/knowledge will be most welcome.

Sue

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberknife

Has a brief comparison of cyberknife with gamma knife

Gamma knife can only be done on the brain and requires a frame be attached to the skull among other things

I had a Gamma Knife treatment two weeks ago for one brain met on my brain stem. No personality change. Hoping time will ease the double vision and sore leg that I suffer from.
My husband will attest my personality is the same!

Re: GAMMA KNIFE/CYBER KNIFE

I'd had three 'shots' of Gamma-knife radiosurgery almost 10 years ago. No personality change.

It really depends on the location of the tumor. Our doctors may be more concerned if the tumor is located in the prefrontal cortex area which is thought to be involved with our personality.

Here's a link to the brain function in Wikipedia:

Just wanted to point out that this is an old thread from 2004 so I'm not sure Pat is in need of any advice on this issue currently.
