The Aftermath of 2009 Mammogram Guidelines
http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/12/03...ex.html?hpt=T2
As a sidenote: I was dx at 38. My sister, a year younger, has been getting mammograms since she was 38. She is now 42 and recently had her mammogram. SHe got a call back because she had " a cluster of calcifications that has increased in size" since her last digital mammo. 1. They did not tell her about the cluster at her last mammo a year ago. 2. Clustered calcifications are highly suspicious for cancer. 3, She has a sister that had breast cancer diagnosed young, and a mother with ovarian cancer. (I tested negative for BRCA 1 and 2) 4. If she did indeed have clustered calcs last year, the protocol should have been SHORT term mammo followup and/or a biopsy. 5. I am not happy about the lack of care and the lack of information. Will find out more today at her call back for additional views......... I bet they use the "we didn't want you to worry" (i.e. become hysterical) argument. She is very pro-active with her health, but is completely helpless with no information. |
