DES Daughters

I recently read an article in MAMM that stated in Aug of 2006, a study was posted that cited that DES daughters are at twice the risk of the general population for bc. I think if this be true, the prenatal environment is a very important determinate of bc risk. SEE below link from MAMM: http://www.mamm.com/late_breaking_news.phpfrom

Hi Robin,

I am a DES daughter. My mother was given DES to prevent miscarriage, because it took her about 7 years to get pregnant with me. I have had almost every DES symptom there is.

My mom took DES when she was pregnant with my sister. My mom and I have both had bc, but my sister hasn't, yet. It also runs on my mom's side of the family... I was the 12th person to get bc.

Hi Ladies, at least you know of your family's DES history and can watch out for bc. Think of all the women out at increased risk who don't even know their other took DES. Very sad.

Robin,

I was a DES daughter. I had 3 miscarriages and i thought it might be due to that.

I am a DES daughter and my sister who died of breast cancer is a DES daughter. I also have three pregnancies and only one was successful. The first, I lost the baby at 7 1/2 months. The second was my son, he is 21 now and my third pregnancy, i lost the baby at 4 1/2 months. No known cause of death both times.

Linda was a DES daughter. Her mom had a difficult pregnancy with her older brother so she was given DES to prevent miscarrage.

I, too, am a DES daughter. My mother had a miscarrage and was given it during her subsequent pregnancy (me) to prevent another. I did not have any troubles with my own pregnancies.

Ug, what really sucks about 20th century medicine, is the many negative side effects from supposedly miracle, life saving drugs like DES. Instead of saving lives, DES, ruined lives. Outraageously, look where DES had its beginnings, at the prestious Harvard School of Medincine. It makes me cringe, you know, to think it took lay people to make the association between DES and teenaged vaginal deformities, and well, that's when they finally banned DES.

Anyway, I wonder if I was exposed to DES, being the baby after my mother had a miscarrage. I'll never know since I am sure my parents would never tell me even if she did take it. Nobody wants to think they caused your cancer, you know.
