Ketogenic Diet

Is anyone on this? I am starting this new way of eating but wanted to see if anyone else has tried it or is eating this way.

Re: Ketogenic Diet

Europa, I had a good look at it about 3 years ago it is shown to mostly work for brain cancer (glio.. something type).

unlike what is often said on "alternative" site cancer can also feed on fatty acids. And secondly can adapt so anytime you have carb it will have many receptors to upload. (imagine the terrible guilt trip each time you eat carb.. not a life)

sorry I don't have time to show the research but I hope that these pointers can help you.

At the end of the day after much reading the diet I think that is the best is veg/nuts ect.. (raw and much green if possible) and oily fish (wild). Easier if you live in warm climates..

Re: Ketogenic Diet

A quick Google search showed quite a lot of information about using a ketogenic diet to treat epilepsy. Even ancient Greeks used fasting for that. The diet was first tried in children in the 1920s. It helps some children have fewer seizures.

That implies that it might be of use in "starving" cancerous lesions in the brain. But I found no peer-reviewed sources on the idea, just the usual miracle cure claims.

FOB, I'm with you on the downside of feeling guilty for eating carbs. If I had brain mets, though, I might feel differently.

I don't have good Internet access at the moment so cannot post links - there is a thread about this is the diet boards and includes links to articles that are peer reviewed using this diet in advanced cancer patients - one in particular saw those that could maintain the diet and hadn't died (we ar talking very late stage here) had stable disease with no other treatment for three months - it was used with patients with a variety of solid tumor cancers.
It is a recent and reasonable length read wi input from quite a few.
Tanya also responded to a jettison of mine regarding ketogenic diet also.
