You guys doing anything special this weekend?

Hi, :)

My two daughters (15 and 13) and I are going on a fun camping trip with about 8 - 10 other families this weekend. My husband and son aren't into camping but us ladies of the family sure are!

Last year I caught the Carpe Diem-"Seize the Day" message from a movie "Courageous" (highly reccomend it http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1630036/) that spurred me on to stop putting off camping. I loved it as a kid and my girls had wanted to go for years and I kept procrastinating, especially since my husband is not into it and we normally would make something like this a family outing. After I got one of the take-away messages from the movie we three had a perfectly FANTASTIC "Girl's weekend" summer campout and here we go again on another grand adventure this weekend. :) We are stretching it out--on the way there, we are stopping off for lunch, then the puppy store to snuggle puppies, then shopping. We might get tubing in if it's not too nippy at the Springs. We've got our swim suits packed. I love to go tubing! It's in the low 80s/high 70s this weekend in Florida but the water there can be pretty chilly, especially if we're wet and it's breezy.

Here's my challenge to all of us, me included, to no longer put off fun things that we or our husbands or kids or friends want to do with us, healthy or not as healthy as we'd like! No time like the present--let's seize the day to whatever measure we are physically able to do. Remember dear Courtney's avitar? It was a photo of her "living like she was living", not like she was dying--her photo of her hiking/travelling was inspiring. I know there are times that we are just to sick to do everything we'd like to be doing but we can still make time doing what we find enjoyable, like make time for a hobby, to read a good book, call a friend, etc if a lot of exertion is too much right then. Are you guys putting off anything you can go ahead and plan to do? Maybe book that ticket or mark down the plan on your calender then DO IT!

Anyone else want to share your weekend plans?

Have a great day!

Paula

Great thread! My husband and I will do a "Giro d'Vino" bike ride in Northern CA. 75 Km (just under 50 miles), with 14 rest stops all at wineries. Wine tasting included :) I won't be drinking any wine during the ride as I'll be the designated driver on the way back. Can't wait for it although we'll miss 2 soccer games for our kids.

But as you said we can't put off fun things anymore so we just have to make choices of which fun things to do! :)

I am leaving for a cruise tomorrow. St. Thomas, St. Martin and and one other port. Our yearly get away, just to relax and try and forget about cancer. Supposed to be going up to Illinois for Thanksgiving, but the doc may put a damper on it and not let me fly with all the fluid in me. Had belly drained, but have some in my lung. So all I can do is hope he will let me go. Blessings to all, Jeanette

I'm so glad you asked! Leaving tomorrow morning for a family vacation. Stopping in Maryland to see my nephew (bringing his family Jersey subs) for a couple of hours. We plan to spend Saturday night in NC. Sunday morning we'll get up, go to church, then hit the road again. We should be arriving in Orlando Sunday evening. We'll be there until Thursday, when we take the autotrain up to Virginia to attend a wedding, before coming home.

Whew. Sorry about the itinerary. Just had chemo today, so I'm praying I feel ok. Don't want to ruin anyone's fun!

Great topic! It's my 50th birthday today and my husband's tomorrow. We have been celebrating all week. We are having a big party tomorrow at one of our favorite restaurants with 36 friends. I have my best friend from college coming into town and spending the night, too. I am all in favor of the birthday week celebration.

We try to plan something almost every month, traveling and visiting friends and family. Living in the moment and for now is something we have always done but even more with my situation.

Enjoy all!

Had a great time with my nephew and his family yesterday in Maryland. Made it to Fayetteville, NC last night 9pm. Hitting the road 7am. Loving that extra hour this morning. Don't forget to set your clocks back! Should be in Orlando @6pm this evening, God-willing.

I like this quote and it reminds me of this topic of seizing the day:

"I will not die an unlived life.
I will not live in fear
of falling or catching fire.
I choose to inhabit my days,
to allow my living to open me,
to make me less afraid,
more accessible,
to loosen my heart
until it becomes a wing,
a torch, a promise.
I choose to risk my significance,
to live so that which came to me as seed
goes to the next as blossom,
and that which came to me as blossom,
goes on as fruit."
~ Markova

Bejuice, your bike ride sounded GREAT! Were you sore afterwards? You are either in excellent shape or keep that up and you'll soon be. :)

Jeanette--hope your cruise is FABULOUS, totally refreshing and full of R & R---sooo glad it wasn't scheduled during Sandy's arrival!

Penny, it sounds like you are having a fantastic, week with more fun ahead! I have jam packed days the rest of this week otherwise would have loved to meet you for lunch in Orlando or have you guys over for dinner if you had time. Maybe another time you are in my neck of the woods. :)

Jacqueline--you and your husband sure know how to celebrate your birthdays! What a great idea stretching it out a whole week. :) Happy, happy birthday to you with many more lovely ones ahead to enjoy.

Our campout was stellar...SUCH fun! I think we'll go back to the same place in the Spring.

Love,

A Happy Camper :)
