Stage 4, need more options

Hello,

Currently on Herceptin and Perjeta and have progression in lungs. What are my options and side effects?

Hi Valleygirl,

I am so sorry, I don't have any advice, but look up Mtngirl/Amy's posts ... she is a long term metster with lung mets.

I believe that by the book, TDM-1 is in order in such a case - it's second line when Herceptin / Perjeta fail you in the body (based on what my oncologist says - mind you, I'm in Canada, I believe it's the same in the US, though...).

Hi Valley girl.

I had progression (2 bone mets) when on H, P & Femara. I was taken off Perjeta (trial drug here in UK) and Femara. Started Xeloda & now on 5th cycle of it. So far no major side effects other than slightly tired. Would this be an option?

valley girl - this just happened to me. i have lung mets and taxol and h and p stopped working. i've been on kadcyla (tdm-1) for three cycles now. they'll scan me in may to see if it's doing anything. i had very low platelet counts after cycle one and had to have a transfusion, have a cough and am a little short of breath, but otherwise tolerating it pretty well.

I'd definitely talk to your onc about kadcyla.

Re: Stage 4, need more options

Sorry to hear this Valley Girl,
I've had a long history of lung mets now for 8.5 years. Originally 3 2.5cm ones. After 6 months of Taxol, two disappeared, and one reduced to around 10mm. That one has grown and declined over the years. Abraxane was effective too - I had two different rounds of that. And then at the end of last year it started to grow again, so I had SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy - targeted 4-d radiation), and it seems to have hit it hard.

Good luck with your decision. I do hear that Kadcyla works well on lung mets.

Re: Stage 4, need more options

I'd back up what the others have said. You have lots of options.

I've been (slowly) toggling back and forth between Herceptin and Perjeta alone and H&P with a chemo. Did Xeloda for awhile. Then did Abraxane. Now back to just H&P.

Everybody's different. Every cancer is different. Keep trying stuff until something clicks.
