Any ideas in San Antionio about how long is best for Arimidex, etc.

Since I am nearing my last 12 pills of Arimidex, I wonder
what to do now, go on as many of you have or stop.
Just wondering if anything was presented on that
topic. I feel in my case it is better to go on if possible
since my tumor was 98 percent ER positive PR negative.
Any thoughts. Thank you for your input and to all peace
and healing for all.

Re: Any ideas in San Antionio about how long is best for Arimidex, etc.

This question came up in presentations (no data yet on the 5 versus 10 year trials) and I also talked to two docs about my personal situation. I was Stage I (node negative) and still having periods at 53, when I was diagnosed (in 2005). I had a lumpectomy, chemo, Herceptin, and radiation. My oncologist put me on two years of Tamoxifen (which Eric Winer assumed correctly) and I have now been taking Femara for close to four years. Dr. Winer indicated he would have me take one more year of Femara and call it a day. Another doctor I spoke to (Dr. Leroy Parker) indicated that he would give patients in my situation a choice of between 4.5-6 years of Femara, following T. Please keep in mind that these doctors were answering questions I posed regarding my specific situation (except for the extended trials question) but perhaps this info will help. Best, Karen Z.

Thank you Karen for sharing this informtion. Like Pat, I am also highly ER positive 90% and PR- (an uncommon subtype). I have been on Femara for 6yrs. At a recent onc. visit he suggested staying on a while longer. It seems to be split with some dr. recommending staying on a while longer and some not.

Hi Jean,
Yes, you and I have both been on what has been seen as the most appropriate given our situations for six years (in my case - as of this Feb.). I know that my doc has been waiting to hear something but he mentioned the absence of news last time. I think I will feel more comfortable staying on at least one more year- and then we shall see. I see my doc in Feb. so will let you know! I think he will be more than fine if I would feel more comfortable.
