Excited but anxious going to Mayo for Trial

Next Thursday I will be at Mayo Clinic participating in the MC1136 Vaccine trial, which involves a Peptide Vaccine produced by TapImmune out of Seattle and GM-CSF. I am having an emotional response to enrolling in this trial. I keep thinking of the women in the first Herceptin trials...if they would not have participated, alot of us on the board would not be here today. I am so grateful for those women in the trials, Dr. Slamon and Lilly Tartikoff for her fundraising efforts to help make those first trials happen. I feel like I am giving back and maybe there is a reason I got breast cancer in the first place. My onc says there is only 7% participation in clinical trials, so there is a real need for "bodies" to participate. I am not a fan of the pink campaigns, ( although I appreciate the efforts and all the fund raising) to me I think if cancer had a color it would be black or gray...because it sucks!!! My back is bad due to disk problems, so I get a pass from doing the 30 mile walks anyway!! So I feel good about being able to do my part in a trial. They are still recruiting if anyone is interested!

JillaryJill,

Yeah! So excited you are in a vaccine trial. So sorry about the pain in your back. My hubby had that. Ouch!
