Looking for reassurance/advice on "washout"

Since developing a severe allergic reaction to Tykerb 2 weeks ago, I've only been on Xeloda. My oncologist at UPenn is in the midst of setting up a clinical trial for T-DM1. She'll know more on the 17th when she meets with them (not sure who "them" is, forgot to ask, I assume it's the drug company). She wants me to stay on Xeloda for now, but not have anything else because the washout period for all treatment will be 22 days. Her meeting with the drug company was supposed to be yesterday, but was rescheduled to the 17th. I really don't feel a sense of urgency, but I think my husband does. Should I be concerned?

Thanks, everyone, as usual, for your input!

Penny I'm sorry I cant help with your question but I'm sure if your onc feels comfortable waiting it should be okay and someone else here is bound to know more and reply!

Penny, I totally understand the anxiety of "waiting", as I've experienced it several times over the past few years.

I think it is good that you can continue on the Xeloda for now; that may be doing some good in the meantime. So you are not, so to speak, "naked" for too long.

While I was "waiting" for TDM1, I was on zero treatment for well over a month while the lawyers finished the paperwork on the trial. It was agony! But once I got going, the TDM1 slapped everything into remission and held me at NED for nearly 2 years.

So yes, it's hard to wait. Double check with your oncologist, but my guess is she feels comfortable with the current "holding pattern". And remember, Xeloda is a potent agent in its own right.

Don't forget to breathe:)

I have not been on chemo (except once) since October 3rd. November 3rd I had Navelbine post-surgery, then got sick. Haven't had it since. I was freaked because we all want to be on chemo, but recent scans show I'm NED. I do want to get back on ASAP and hopefully will feel well enough at the end of the month. But, it seems a little time off may not hurt. I hope you get similar results.
