Anyone know a great Lymphedema Therapist in San Diego Area????

Anyone know a great "Private Practice" Lymphedema Therapist in the San Diego Area????

My Surgeon suggested a Private Practice Therapist but unfortunately, this Therapist does not accept my Aetna Insurance. I called Aetna and they do not have a way to search for a "Lymphedema Specialists."

I tried the Lymphedema Network and found only the Private Practice Therapist (in San Diego) that my Surgeon suggested. Ugh!

By the way, my Surgeon's staff has not had good results with patients going to a hospital's Physical Therapy center (like Scripps).

Susie Q, I don't know how helpful this will be, if at all. But I am in Palm Springs about 2 hours or less drive from SD. The Cancer Center here referred me to the PT Dept of Desert Regional Med Center that has a lymphedema component. The therapist I had was very thorough and thoughtful. It is just a little room in the hospital rehab division but I felt well treated. She did extensive testing and measuring. She put me through a series of lymphedema exercises and after a few visits I was okay to do them at home myself. I had very early lymphedema symptoms and some post surgical issues. It was more preventative. But it was a good experience. If you want more info let me know.....

Thanks Joe!

I sent the link to a dear friend of mine with metastatic b/c. She has severe lymphedema and her insurance company is refusing to pay for her compression sleeve. There is a sample letter of appeal on the website that she is going to send to her insurance company. She has been struggling with writing yet another letter and was thrilled to find one perfect for her situation.

Thanks again for your help and for this website - truly a blessing to so many.

Best regards,

Gerri, where on the NLN website is the sample letter of appeal for an insurance company?

Thank you Joe for the web site information. I am finding that we are definately deficient in Lymphedema services in the North San Diego area -- especially, services that take private insurance. I will do my best to help change this situation!

SuzieQ,

I copied the link to the page with the letter and pasted it below. If that doesn't work just click on FAQs and you will see some links below. Click on the link that says 'Insurance Issues' and the letter will display.

Best of luck to you.

For lymphedema therapy I suggest you go to Shelby Care (located inside Live Right Wellness Center) 16730 Bernardo Center Dr San Diego 92128
They offer one-on-one lymphedema therapy The therapists are Occupational Therapists (Belinda is the best) (OT)certified in lymphedema therapy. They accept most major medical insurance plans.
It is a 90 min therapy session including: manual lymph drainage - compression pumping- compression bandaging - individual exercise programs - They can measure you for compression garments - and give patient education.
Why go to a hospital for treatment, when you can go here.

Any woman that has had breast surgery or radiation is at risk Call for treatment or intervention to stop the possibility of lymphedema
