"This is the largest study that suggests the appearance of MCs on mammograms is strongly associated with HER-2 overexpression, invasive ductal carcinoma and perimenopausal status."

This fits me to a " T." Interesting study. Thanks, Hopeful.

Fits me too. Sheesh. There's no doubt in my mind now that the 2006 core needle biopsy missed the cancer (just like the current one, except that this time, I was lucky enough to have a surgical oncologist who was on the ball).

Thanks again, Hopeful, for all these great articles.

Re: Mammographic Microcalcifications and Breast Cancer Tumorigenesis

I had micro calcs, too, show up in my annual mammo, which directed the radiologist to an "architectural distortion" in the breast, which lead to dx. It would be interesting to learn what the association is.

Rhonda, I am a researcher at heart, and like to poke around in the abstracts and posters presented at the various symposiums. About a third of what catches my eye is either too technical or does not provide additional info to me, about a third is of interest primarily to me, and the other third I think enough others would like to read, so I post those. Hope they are useful.

You're always so goood Hopeful. I just had a 2cm tumor show up - no denying it. But clustered micro calcifications is a bad sign.

For years I have had benign, large calcificiations in both breasts. I have read somewhere along the way that one of cancer's manifestations is a disregulation of the calcium channel. Maybe this is visible evidence?

Becky, right back at you for all you do for this community. :)

I also have large "boulder" calcifications but never small nor clustered. The docs say that this is the way I am (and my mom(who had bc) and non cancer sister is this way too). Who knows?
