Re: Preventive surgery protects against breast, ovarian cancer in women carrying BRCA

I felt so much healthier (no longer having low-grade fever, no peeling lips...) after my prophylactic hysterectomy/oophorectomy. My final decision to undergo the procedure was made when I learned about my 2nd Brother's colon cancer treatment in 2009. Fortunately by then I'd already had my BRCA gene test done (because of Mother's Non-Hodekins Lymphoma treatment in 1998) and my surgery was approved based on the BRCA gene variant found in the test. The amazing thing was that when I typed in all the cancers happened in my family, I came across a term - HNPCC - which matched the illnesses that had happened in my family.
