My daughter

My 31-year-old daughter has her2+ breast cancer. She has had neo-adjuvant adriamycin, cytoxan, taxol and herceptin. She is on a break from the herceptin because it caused her heart function to decrease. They'll do another echocardiogram in 4 weeks to see if she can go back on it. She'll also have a mastectomy in a month or so. Needless to say, I'm so afraid she won't be able to resume the herceptin. I'm wondering if there is anyone here who has stopped herceptin. If so, how are you?

Re: My daughter

Hi

I stopped herceptin early (7 months) due to decreased heart function. I went to cardio and started coreg and diovan. Function returned to normal within wks, but my onc told me no need to go back on herceptin I was fine w his decision They only do 9 wks of herceptin in Europe. However my bc metastasized very quickly after everything was done. I often wonder if that had anything to do with it.
Please have your daughter get on meds for heart protection and brisk walking 30 mins a day
Best of luck

I live in Ireland we still do a year of Herceptin here KeriK, (where are you in Europe?/ wasn't aware of anywhere doing 9 weeks but know there was a study on it) I was thankful to do the full year without issue's but know most people that have to stop do resume after a short while and hope your daughter can too Piano girl.

Re: My daughter

I never had Herceptin or chemo, as they didn't do that for my size and stage of cancer at the time in Europe. I'm still here 10 years 5 months later.

Love

Re: My daughter

Thank you for your responses. We will pray she's able to resume the herceptin and I'll pass along the other information to her. I pray you both are well.

Re: My daughter

Many people have stopped herceptin, recovered heart function, and gone back on. It's very common.

Good luck to your daughter.
