Ceesun Update...and one question!

Hi Friends, Just wanted to check in with the latest from frigid Michigan. Had an mri of the brain, cts chest abdomen and pelvis, and pet scan. My oncologist said the report was good: mri was fine, pet showed residual activity in chest which he said was good. The lung lesions are smaller again and he said the pet scan revealed that they were not metabolically active. I should have asked him, but you know how the brain freezes, sometimes??!! Does that mean to you the lesions show up but are not behaving like cancer? Anyway, he congratulated me and sent me on my way. Tomorrow kadcyla and I join forces again. Ouch!!! Best wishes to all. Hugs, too! Cathy

Cathy,

Well the oncologist was happy - that is a good thing.

Wishing you minimal side effects from Kadcyla, and maximum effectiveness!

Such good scan news, Ceesun!! I think it means that lungs are NEnD. No Evidence of New Disease :-)

Ok, maybe there is evidence of old disease, but nothing is active, so maybe "lesions" are like necrosis, and scar tissue. I think when cancer stops behaving like cancer, the extra (tumor or lesion) is eventually re-absorbed, or just remains like scar tissue remains, it shows up and does nothing. At least that is my own impression. Would be okay to call the Dr and leave a message with your question - maybe the nurse can ask and then call you back.

question to Cathy and 'lisbeth -
how come you do not list your history in your signatures? I am curious...

Wonderful news you have to share!

Yes, the evidence of old lesions could be scars. This is what I had in my liver - three residual spots that were not changing and finally showed no SUV uptake. Took the better part of a year for those scars to resolve into "disappeared" spots, but they eventually were not seen on my scans.
Don't think our lungs can regenerate quite the same as the liver.

My med onc did prescribe 3 more rounds of weekly chemo until the next PET which confirmed no more uptake. I was tired but dutifully took my medicine!

Hi Ceese, sounds good to me. I have always thought that metabolically active means "growing".
