9 year Anniversary

Yesterday was my 9 year anniversary of having my mastectomy. 9 years ago I was so afraid being Stage 3 and not knowing what was ahead. I am still seeing my Oncologist every 6 months. Does anyone else this far out still see their Oncologist every 6 months??

I will be 10 years in August and I still see my onc every 6 months too. It's alittle reassuring but it seems alittle much too. Congratulations on 9 years. So great!

Congratulations! So good to hear from you.

I wouldn't mind seeing the doctors at all... (My previous oncologist thought I was hypochondriac! Well, I really didn't become more careful until they had misread the mammograms for four years straight! And their assumption that I didn't need the BRCA genes test because of my race?)

Congrats on your anniversary, Yorkiegirl! I am 13 years out now and don't see my oncologist anymore, I think my visits stopped once I reached 10 years post diagnosis. It's kind of hard to let go of that relationship and reassurance but I know I can always call and schedule an appt. if I have any worrisome symptoms. Celebrate your anniversary--I wish you continued good health

Great news, Yorkie! So happy for you!

Let's see, I am 18 yrs from dx. 14 yrs from being "cautiously" declared STABLE.

I still see my onc ev 6 mnths. I go for bld ev 6 mnths. I have graduated to annual Ct scans (chest/abd/pelv) and now -- w/NO contrast.

The availability of Vitamin H came 1 mnth after I recurred (September 28, 1998)! I stayed on H for 10 yrs... despite being STABLE. No studies on pp like me. I was in uncharted waters. And ever grateful!!!

BE WELL!!

Love,
ANDI

Re: 9 year Anniversary

Congrats on being 9 years out Vicki.

I am 7 1/2 years out - My original onc. discharged me in July 2012, when I finished my 5 years of anti-estrogens (2 1/2 years Tamoxifen, 2 1/2 years Femara. At that time I was almost 6 years out.)

I was given the choice of just seeing my regular GP, or being seen at a new clinic for post cancer survivors at Women's College Hospital in downtown Toronto, about 10 minutes from the hospital where I had my chemo and Herceptin treatments. I would be seen yearly by an oncologist, not sure yet for how many years, but I decided to go with that option. Love my new onc., have my mammograms there now, and she arranged for me to have a colonoscopy (strictly routine) at the same hospital, just to have all my records in one place.

all the best
caya

Congratulations on 9 years out! It's been awhile since I posted and what an encouraging post to come upon. Yeah for you. I will be 9 years NED in just a few months....June. I have not seen my oncologist since I was 5 years out. My oncologist gave me the option but I opted out. I had a good Internal Medicine doctor in the town I lived and he took everything I said very seriously. Had there been any issue whatsoever I would have returned to my oncologist, but I can thankfully report that I am healthy and well. "This is the day the Lord has made............"

Sweet blessings,

Mary Jo
