What to do for face rash from Tykerb?
 

Hello everyone - I need your knowledge! What can my daughter do for the rash that has just appeared on her face from Tykerb? She's been on it for 19 days and it just appeared yesterday. What can she put on it? Your help as always is so appreciated. My best to you all

The good news is the rash indicates usually a good response to the drug. It also genrally goes away by itself. I found this thread and this is what I used, an oil face serum by SUKI...it cleared mine up in a couple days...hope this helps.

I was on Tykerb for about 12 weeks and had a rash on my face at some point (week 2?3?). Mine felt and appeared like patches of sunburn. I tried several creams and lotions and the one that really worked for me was one that had been recommended on this board somewhere - it was actually an oil-type moisturizer made by a company named Suki. Their products are all natural and organic and can be found at Whole Foods, where I got mine.

I liked the oil so much that now I use a Suki product on my skin every night.

Kiri had the rash, Joyce, on her face, scalp, neck and back. She used something her research nurse gave her. I'll ask what it was. But I'm so glad your daughter is finally on Tykerb! That's great news. :-)

Shelia - Thank you. It came up just fine. Looks like Clindamycin gel is the thing to use if it doesn't go away soon. My best to you

Clindamycin is what K is using too, Joyce. On the positive side, I've heard that the rash is an indication the tykerb is working. Kiri's tumor shrank from 9 X 8 cm to 5 X 5 cm while she was on it. Keeping my fingers crossed for your daughter. XOXOX

She's not on anything at the moment, Joyce. She was pulled off chemo and out of the trial when she had such a tough time with the pericarditis, gallbladder attack and then pancreatitis from the ERCP. They're going to schedule her mastectomy asap and then put her back on chemo afterwards.
