On increasing diabetes

Strange that the issue is reduced simply to excess calories and "overnutrition", when it sure seems the glycemic index (resultant blood sugar spikes) of foods would be very relevant.

Re: On increasing diabetes

I am so glad you posted this article. It is such a sad and complicated issue. I agree that it would be very interesting to look at nutrient delivery and content, including GI/GL, in children with Type 2. Unfortunately, children and adolescents make so few food choices at home (i.e. parents do the shopping/cooking-or lack thereof). I am continually amazed (maybe horrified is a better word) at the lack of buy in from many parents of Type 2 children or overweight/obese children. These kids are between a rock and a hard place as they are often so dependant on their parents to guide them into a healthier lifestyle. Don't get me started on school food!! I am afraid to see the impact and life-limiting complications these children will face in their 20's and 30's. This study again highlights the need for prevention of obesity but as of right now it feels like the message is not working. I was just trained last week to be a Fuel Up to Play 60 administrator and hoping to make a difference in our local schools but I have to admit it feels like a very overwhelming task!
