Xyloda protocol

My daughter in-law has finished two three week cycles of Xyloda, two weeks taking 3300 mg a day and one week without the drug. Is this a common regimen?

Yes, 2 weeks taking the drug xeloda followed by 1 week off is standard protocol.

Many oncs are also giving it one week on with one week off to reduce side effects and it is as effective based on Memorial Sloan Kettering's pharmokentic research. Dose reduction is often necessary and even at more modest doses it can still be effective.

Hope Xeloda works wonders and is easy on her GI system and hands and feet. I had to dose down for those reason. But it is working!!

Stay strong...Darlene

Ewww Xeloda..that stuff was ruff on me. My hands and feet were like burned meat. Standard dose is 2 weeks on /1 off. I also had to take a lower dose later on . I started having the hand foot thing around my 3rd round. It worked for me though. sherryg

Xeloda is usually given in the 2 week on, 1 week off cycle. They have found that a dosage of 2500mg per day - 3000 mg per day is just as effective as higher doses. Xeloda transforms into 5FU in the body. Everyone is different as to side effects...I had minor hand and foot issues...but I was on it for almost 1 1/2 years and I found it to be a very easy drug to take. The important thing is to avoid extreme heat with the hands and feet, including hot water, as it dilates the capillaries and causes more of the medicine to be released into tissue in the hands and feet. Hope this helps.

Re: Xyloda protocol

The dosage and duration can be adjusted as needed to help with side effects. I was on 3000 mg/daily for two weeks with one week off but recently adjusted to a two week off period. I'm finding that my body likes this much better and my GI system, feet and hands have time to fully recover before the next cycle.

Wishing all the best for your DIL!
