Finished Herceptin

Just want to share my news..after 15 months of treatment I took my last infusion of herceptin on Monday. It has been a wild ride to this point and as you all know a little surreal. I feel a little lost. Everyone in my world says " are you cured, no more cancer"? Well, I certainly hope so, but am tough enough to realize life gives no guarantees. My onc says see her every 4 months for blood work and come in if any pain persists for more than two weeks.??!! What?? Is that all?! I can only hope that this experience gives me the chance to help someone else through this journey. May we all be given the chance to live our dreams in this life we are given. Hugs to everyone!
Elizabeth

Congratulations!

Hugs to you, too!

My oncologist just said to come back in a year! It will get better as time goes by...

HI Elizabeth:

I am nearly where you are...I am in my last week of radiation (boost!) and will be on Herceptin until September. My mind has been wandering alot lately in trying to put the last 10 months of treatment behind me and not worry so much about recurrance. The word 'cured' doesnt quite hold the significance for us that it would for others I think.

It is really tough to try to rebuild and try to go back to a typical life again...just know that we are all right there too...:)

Many congrats!!!!:)

I was told the same thing, but reassured they did order whatever scans were necessary when needed so stay vigilant!
We are our own best advocates it seems !!!:)

Congratulations on finishing treatment. Your feelings are so natural and normal - you live at a cancer center for 12+ months then you're out. Its unnerving but you will get very used to (and happy about) being sprung. I am happy for you.
