Low dose aspirin
 

Does anyone take low dose aspirin in a preventative fashion? Reports keep coming out talking about low dose aspirin being beneficial in preventing different kinds of cancer. In the paper today, Toronto Star the column that they have The You Docs (Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen )have said that studies have shown that women with breast cancer who regularly take aspirin are 64% less likely to die. It says that the aspirin shrinks estrogen production, starving breast cancers that feed on this hormone and I have seen other reports about low dose aspirin being beneficial. I put in a call to my oncologist's
office and the secretary said that there were still not a lot of studies out there and he said I could if I wanted to. I checked with the oncologist pharmacist and she said it would not interfere with the Letrolzole. I feel like I would like to take it as my breast cancer is estrogen positive. Does anyone here have any comments or thoughts about this. Thanks Lois.

With that 64% stat, I wish I could take it but am on warfarin for blood clots so can't do aspirin or aspirin products. I would like to see a similar study for those of us who are taking anti-coagulants other than aspirin and if they would have the same result.

Hi Jani. Thanks for responding. You know that 64% seems really high doesn't it. I wonder if that was a misprint in the paper. Anyhow when I google low dose aspirin and cancer there are numerous articles about this. None of the other's have mentioned breast cancer and I get the feeling the medical community is saying it is still early to say and to let more studies come out. Anyway I will think about this. take care . Lois

I take it to prevent recurrence or a new cancer as it is a Cox1&2 inhibitor. I can't remember the stats but they are positive for preventing death.

Hi Becky Thanks for the info. How much are you taking. Is it enteric coated? I read in the article I was reading to take the aspirin with warm water which absorbs it more easily. Also I have read to drink it with milk. Any thoughts on that? Bye for now Lois

Strange though, this new article did not mention anything about breast cancer. I would think there should be at least a citation on the result of the Nurses Health Study.

I take one low dose aspirin daily as approved by my onc. and GP - 81 mg., coated.

I take Aspirin (81 mg) every other day based on the Nurse study that showed decreased recurrence rates in women taking Aspirin 3-5 times per week. Note that this is a retrospective look at data not a double-blinded placebo controlled trial. There is no evidence-based medicine to back this up althoughI believe they are starting trials or will be doing so in the future. It may turn out to be nothing, but I still take my aspirin!

I take one full strength aspirin every other day.

I take one 81mg coated daily. My cardiologist had me start it after my heart problems from Herceptin. Mary L

I take one, along with COQ 10 (started to take that with herceptin as I was told it helps the heart), a woman's daily multi vit, Omega 3-6-9 , those are my supplements!

I asked my oncologist and she encouraged me to start taking apirin 3x week. She told she also takes them. Lets see how it goes with the bruising.

I take one low dose aspirin every day to prevent recurrence as prescribed by my clinical oncologist.

I have been taking 1 low dose aspirin for maybe 4 months now. I started out on a daily basis, but had significant bruising. So now I take it once every 3 days. I may try to reduce it to once every 2 days and see if I do ok with that.

I have been taking a low dose asprin daily for a good 3 yrs now. My onc highly encouraged me to do so.

I also am taking 81mg every other day. I figure with a strong family history of heart disease it can't hurt. My onc was all for it.

And another question-does anyone find B6 and/or B12 help with neuropathy of the feet? My feet are more sore this year than last and walking some days is a trial.
Anything else that may help?
