Re: Water retention on Herceptin

I was on herceptin for almost ten years, never experienced gain weight due to herceptin just from eating :)

Hope you get better.

Re: Water retention on Herceptin

I had my first TCH + P infusion on Monday and instead of the expected side effects, I'm terribly bloated and am experiencing mild heartburn/reflux? I've been drinking a lot of water to flush my system, but eating even a small meal makes me feel uncomfortably bloated. Does anyone have some ideas for relief of these side effects?
Thanks.
Mona

Re: Water retention on Herceptin

Hi Mona, I had godawful indigestion/heartburn from the taxotere and lived on peppermint candies, OTC Pepcid and stevia sweetened gingerale to help ... as far as bloating, do you mean as in constipated? (I didn't have the Perjeta, so my treatment was not exactly like yours). I was always severely constipated the first week or so and my husband made barley soup for me (you can put this in the search feature here because I posted the recipe) and it really helped. But I know alot of people get diarrhea from the Perjeta, so that may not be something you want to try!

Don't suffer in silence ... call your oncology team and let them know, they should be able to prescribe something or recommend an OTC remedy to help.

ANOTHER ... DAY ... DOWN!!! :)

Re: Water retention on Herceptin

Thanks Carol Ann!
The belatedness seems to get worse as the day goes by, and I end up feeling like Jabba the Hutt! Maybe it's my imagination, but I feel worse after taking the anti-nausea meds and jittery after the Claritin. I'm like that little kid that wants to shut her eyes and have it all go away like a bad dream.
Thanks for your advice. I'm going to tweak my diet a bit and call the nurse today.
Mona
