Sugar and cancer: A surprise connection or 50-year cover-up?

Knowledge of a connection between sugar and cancer might reach back as far as 50 years. But what is the evidence today? And can we get away from sugar?

Very Interesting. Cancer cells are very high in the beta glucuronidase enzyme. This is the whole idea behind Laetrile. Im not implying Laetrile works against cancer in any way but theory.

Laetrile has a cyanide molecule bound to a sugar. The Beta-Glucuronidase in the cancer cells causes this cyanide molecule to break off and kill the cancer cell. Non cancerous cells have much less Beta-Glucuronidase enzyme so they are less susceptible to the Laetrile effect.

Normal cells are rich in an enzyme called Rhodanese. This enzyme detoxifies Cyanide (CN) by chaging it too Thiocyanate (SCN).Cancer cells are deficient in the cyanide detoxifying enzyme and are more susceptible to the Laetrile effect.

In theory Laetrile should work against cancer. In reality not so sure

Paul,
We have known for a long time that the sugar industry has been trying to suppress research showing all the harms from eating sugar.

Many "theories" have not panned out when put in practice. I recall when various new drugs would be approved with great fanfare engendering hope in so many, and would end up being less effective and even being pulled from use.

This still happens.

I have to sit in the "use much less sugar" camp. This is what I did at the time I was beginning a 3-drug treatment for stage IV mets. I basically cut out 85 to 90%, and this was not easy due to the amount of sugar that is hidden in so many food items. I still eat a low sugar diet.

The only way to be sure about whether or not there are additives is to buy organic + GMO and cook from scratch. This takes time, but I felt it was the best thing I could do with my limited energy to increase my chance of survival.
