New Device Performs PET&MRI Simultaneously
This is good news for an old scanning pro like me... imagine, a PET/MRI. Whoa. One appt, one room, one machine, less radiation. I'm down w/ that.

Re: New Device Performs PET&MRI Simultaneously
It sounds like a great idea to me. It not only means less radiation, but fewer medical appointments, giving us more free time to do other things.

Re: New Device Performs PET&MRI Simultaneously
Good news indeed. But what about the cost?

Re: New Device Performs PET&MRI Simultaneously
I like it! The fewer test/scans I have to go to the better. Any time I can avoid added radiation is a real benefit in my book. I was so interested in this I did a search and found another link on it. It took them a while to make this work..but sounds great. Plus it leaves more room inside the MRI machine for ppl that feel claustrophobic. Thanks for sharing this with us Brenda. :)

Re: New Device Performs PET&MRI Simultaneously
When can I sign up? I have had so many scans this year alone, I can't count them.
Thanks for sharing. Kris... |
Re: New Device Performs PET&MRI Simultaneously
Call your local radiological center(s) and ask if they plan to eventually get one of these new machines! It may take a while for them to roll out, since I think the approval was recent. I am guessing that some of the big cancer centers might have them first, but I don't know any details at all other than what I posted.
I can't wait though! |

Good link, Chelee!

Re: New Device Performs PET&MRI Simultaneously
Also good for those who can't use CT contrast and those need uptake info for some areas (eg. diffuse liver mets) and size info for others. This would be perfect for mom.

Re: New Device Performs PET&MRI Simultaneously
I saw one of these scanners last fall a a meeting. It's way cool. Now that it has FDA approval looks like Siemens will have them available in the US in 2012

Re: New Device Performs PET&MRI Simultaneously
I'm having my first PET/CT together shortly. I've always just had the CT, then a bone scan. My onco says doing this will eliminate the bone scan altogether. I'm pretty thrilled about it.

Re: New Device Performs PET&MRI Simultaneously
Henny,
I wonder if there are any facilities in the US that were doing early testing..i.e. already have one. Of course, there may be issues with insurance coverage on this imaging. My impression is that MRIs are more labor intensive/take longer to read = expensive. |
