Dear Karen

Hang in there baby. The side effects that are most common in Avastin include high blood pressure and blood noses. Another is black & blue marks.

Sheila and others will know more as they took the drug.

Big hug to you.

Hi Karen,
I go to the onc Friday and have a friend there who has been on Avastin for some time. Nose bleeds are the biggest side effect that I remember him talking about. I think also keeping blood counts high enough. I'll ask Wayne if I see him, and if not, I'll ask his nurses. He has a different cancer, but has had a very long battle as you have. When he first started on the Avastin, it scared me because of how tired and drained he looked. BUT, just a month later, he was looking so good and the stuff was working for him. He had taken so many different meds and had been battling for 9+ years. His inspiration is his grandchildren. They live about 1 hour away and the little boys adore their grandpa. He takes them fishing and "teaches them about life"!
I don't know how the side effects will work on you from the Avastin, Navelbine and H, but I'm so believing that it will work and give you some good news and some "kick butt" on those stupid BC cells.
Sending a hurricane of love and powerful belief to you. Hugs, ma

Hi Karen,

Becky's right, the main side effects of Avastin are elevated BP and bloody nose (bloody nose like with some of the chemos). I had both when I was on Avastin.

With the BP the key is to watch it closely because it can be controlled with medication and this is much easier if it is managed before it gets too high. I was able to keep it under control with a low dose of lisinopril (5mg) which was low enough to not cause unpleasant side effects of it's own.

I felt very good while on Avastin - depending on what you combine it with, it should be very tolerable and can work very well for a long time.

Sending much love your way Karen,
Chris

Same with me on the avastin side effects. Some bloody nose, not bad, mostly when I blow my nose, not just spontaneously. Also my bp has been rising. I've been on avastin since May 14,08. My average bp was around115/65 - always very good. Today it was 164/75 - still not high enough to do anything the onc. said, but to watch it.

Karen
I have missed your posts on the board...take time to let the treatments work...you are always on my mind and in my prauers....as far as side effects, I was on Avastin 6 months, I too had the bloody noses...about 5-6 x a day, and high B/P...to the point of needing meds to control it...do keep a check on the B/P...they watched mine for awhile, but then it came to the point of needing the meds.
Sending healing thoughts and love to you Karen

Hi Karen! I did treatment today and talked to the head nurse in the treatment room and she told me of so many people getting positive results from Avastin. She repeated the side effects you have heard of, but she REALLY emphasized how much success is happening with it! They are very excited about it's effect on met. BC. I'm praying that you are one of the biggest success stories for Avastin. Much love, ma
