Starting Tykerb/Xeloda tomorrow

Well, after all of the tests and physicals and all, I finally got the approval for the tykerb/Xeloda trial (yeah) I am really excited. The will be starting me at 2000mg/day xeloda and 1250mg/day tykerb. I just know this is going to go well and WORK! Anyone that has been on it? Please let me know your experience/side effects/etc... I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you!
Dace

Dear Dace

Thats great news. All the best.I am going to my Onc today to see scan results and start the tykerb process. What tests did you have to have. I undertand how exciting this is cause it seems so effective. All the best and let us know how you go.

I had to have a CBC and some other blood tests and a CT scan and a MUGA scan. and before I start the trial they are going to take more blood and do a physical. I will just be glad to get started!

So good to hear Dace

Good to hear you are going to begin the Tykerb/Xeloda trial.

I started in August and am in my 4th cycle now. I am on 2650 mg Xeloda (down from 3000mg) and 1250mg Tykerb daily.

The Xeloda can be a little mean on the hands/feet but hopefully it won't bother you. Keep your hands and feet well lubricated with creams. The Tykerb is an easy drug. No side effects from that one.

I have had one scan and tumor marker test done after 6 weeks on and my CEA tumor marker went down from 35 to 3.5 which is great. I know I am very sensitive to this marker so I was pleased with these numbers. No change at that time on my tumors but did not grow either. I am getting ready to rescan in a couple of weeks and we will see what is going on then. So so far we feel that the treatments are stopping growth. I will update everyone after my next scans.

I believe you are correct and this will be a good drug. Keep the faith and take care. Any questions you may have, feel free to contact me.

Irene how did you get away with having one scan??? My oncologist tried to get my scans to be done every 12 weeks instead of 6 seems I only have skin mets. He was told they need to watch us closing to make sure it doesn't go to other parts of the body. They also said the protocal says every 6 weeks. Having a muga, bone and cat scan with dye and contrast is a lot as it pretty much involves a whole day for me at the hospital. I get blood work every 3 weeks. Just curious. Will be looking forward to hearing a great report! hugs, Sandy

Hey Sandy

If I understand correctly - they will do blood work every 3 weeks and scans every 6 weeks. So far I have only had one set of scans but will be repeating in a couple of weeks. I am only in my fourth cycle so this is correct.

My base line before I began trial - I had complete testing with bone, Pet/Ct,muga/,etc. Now I only have the echocardio for the heart and the CT scan every 6 weeks. And I was told that would probably be reduced in time if everything going as planned.

Take care
