Pertuzumab (Omnitarg™) and Herceptin® (Trastuzumab) Effective for Metastatic HER2-Positive Breast Cancer
Researchers involved in an international study have reported that the combination of Omnitarg and Herceptin has significant activity in women with HER2-positive breast cancer who progressed on Herceptin alone. The details of this Phase II study were presented at the 2007 meeting of the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) in December.1

Eric,
I saw this presentation at San Antonio, and if you go to the sabcs.org website, click on "highlighted presentations and view Dr. Kent Osborne's mini symposium from Dec 16. It is a very thorough (and understandable) review of Her-targeted therapy and mechanisms of resistance. The key is to go for a complete blockade of the entire Her family - and the pertuzumab/herceptin trial is a step in the right direction. He also notes the next step will be to add another agent to close off another path. Very exciting stuff.

Chrisy,

I agree on both accounts. I found Dr Osborne's presentation extremely informative and easy to understand and I do find this to be very exciting for all of us.

I have agreed to participate in this trial. I currently have mets to the sternum and some soft tissue mets in my reconstructed breasts. After I complete rads and go through all the tests, I will start. I will definitely be getting herceptin and taxotere, I don't know if I will have placebo or not. The onc nurses at my office say they are getting the actual drug because they can tell by the way it bubbles in the bag. I promise to keep you informed.

Dear Kim -
SO sorry to hear of the progression. You seemed to be doing well, but we all know this disease is a very sneaky devil.

You are another brave trailblazer in the search for more effective treatments for our kind of mets.

All my positive thoughts that you WILL get the new drug in your combo. Keep us posted on how things go after the radiation.
