More Good Results on Perjeta
 

In the beginning of September I added Xeloda to my Herceptin and Perjeta regimen. A few days ago I had a PET scan and saw those lovely, rare, words: "Overall Improvement." I have some lesions that have "resolved," and everything else is taking up less glucose than it did, or is smaller, or both.

I'm tolerating this combination well. Side effects are manageable, and they seem like a small price to pay for having the cancer controlled so well.

I had gotten used to seeing only "stable" or "mixed" results. (I haven't seen NED around here for quite awhile.) Don't get me wrong--I know I'm lucky to have a low cancer burden and great quality of life, and I know intellectually that "stable" is a "good" scan result. But I must admit "improvement" is music to my ears.

Christmas came a little early for me this year.

That's great news, Amy. My New Year's wish for you is that the "overall improvement" trends to NED at the next scan.

Yeah, I'll take it.

I'm also planning a fun trip to visit dear friends in Philadelphia and DC/Virginia, starting Friday. Life is good. I have some fun activities lined up, and I'll be with people I love. I'll miss seeing my family (back in Denver), but will see them in March.

Can you tell me what your experience is of the combination of Herceptin and Perjeta? I have been in remission for almost 5 years now, however, my oncologist believes that it is just a matter of time before it comes back. I had one recurrence 5 years ago. Since that time I have been treated with Herceptin for almost 5 years. My onc would like to go ahead and add the perjeta now as another treatment that he believes will prevent another recurrence. I'm hesitant to add anything while I am still in remission but would like to know more about the combination before I make a decision.
