Hi Ladies

I seen my onc a couple of weeks ago for my annual 3month check, everything came out fine(blood work). However in the past week I have been having severe pain in my right breast, it is like someone stuck a pin right through my nipple and it lasts for just about a minute. I won't be having any scans until May, my next appointment. What should I do, should I call my onc and maybe set an appointment for my scans earlier? Should I keep track of how many times a day, week this happens. Any advise would help...I hate that I panick with anything that has to do with my breast. It will be two yrs in July being cancer free.

Hi Theresa; I think you should call your onc and make an appt. to have it checked out, assuming it will be a week or two until you can get in. In the meantime, yes, keep a log of how many times a day, and level of severity. You've already had a week of pains, and by the time you get in to see the doc you will be at the "2 week" mark which is when my onc always says something needs checking out, if it's been going on for 2 or more weeks.
If it turns out to be nothing, that's great, then your mind will be at rest.

Dear Theresa,

i think you should not panic, however I advise to call your onc and let him know what you are feeling. I remember that my onc told me once that I was going to feel strange things in my breast due to the nerve connections that were damaged there. I always feel something, but nothing bad has resulted of it.

I Theresa,

I get twings and twangs in both the affected and unaffected. By T & T, I mean startling sensations but not quite a needle. The affected side is usually achier. I haven't mentioned them, but by all means , make an appointment and mention them, it will make you feel better. It's probably nothing, but hey it's not our job to diagnose. I do think BC people are more likely to notice happenings in their bodies. It could be the Ai's etc. too. I'm a year ahead of you and my scans keep coming out clean even with twings and twangs. Good luck, Bev

Re: Hi Ladies

It has been a very long time since I have been on here, but this is the only place where I can feel a connection to how I may be feeling. I have now been cancer free for almost 4yrs. The pain in my right breast did go away all my scans have been clear, however it (the pain) is back and yesterday I seen my ONC (now every 6 months). She told me my protien number is higher than it has been in the last 3 1/2 yrs. She wants to do a mammagram and ultra sound and now wants to see me every 3 months. Can someone refresh my memory--what is the Her2 protein? is it a over acting cell? or what. I am really trying not to be scared or over reacting to what may be nothing..
Thanks

I am copying something SHoba just posted to me: "Perhaps your onc is just extra proactive. But going through these tests does take a toll on us, emotionally and physically"

I couldnt' have said it better. I've just gone through a few months of tests on my liver -- ultrasound and then a CAT scan. My liver is fine. I get needle pain in my lumpectomy breast sometimes, but not steadily. I'm sure you are ok. As for me, Xanax was this girl's best friend for a few days around my Cat Scan. I don't try to brave out the anxiety any more.

Re: Hi Ladies

Theresa,

I wondered if your doctor was talking about the 'protein' number getting higher in your blood test. It could be a signal of something unusual in your system such as new tumor growth. I'm glad your doctor is being cautious and trying to get ahead of the game. There are many reasons for 'changes' to be detected in our blood tests. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...
