Molecular Breast Imaging Is Superior to Ultrasound and Mammography for the Detection

Re: Molecular Breast Imaging Is Superior to Ultrasound and Mammography for the Detect
I had one 3 years ago. They are so sensitive that it was the first time in my entire life I had a Birads 1 reading.
However, the radiation involved is 8-10X the amount of a mammogram so I decided I would use it if I had to "go back for more pictures". They have one an hour from me in Philly at Jefferson. You go in and get a shot in a vein in the arm. They take you in the room and you wait alittle while (maybe 15 minutes). Then you get on a machine like a mammogram (but you sit). It is like a mammogram but they don't have to squeeze but they have to take the picture for a long time. You get 2 pictures of each breast just like a mammogram (but each picture takes 10 minutes to take). It takes a long time. |

8-10x the radiation? Damn.

Re: Molecular Breast Imaging Is Superior to Ultrasound and Mammography for the Detect
Just a clarification that in a molecular breast imaging procedure the radiation is on the whole body rather than concentrated on the breast as is in the mammography. Just in the breast the radiation is actually half that of a mammogram. The amount of radiation you get from molecular breast imaging is similar to the radiation you get from living a year in Colorado. According to RadiologyInfo.org, a website co-developed by the American College of Radiology and Radiological Society of North America, “…there are no known long-term adverse effects from such low-dose exposure.”

Thanks because I think the Dilon gives a better picture and result than a mammogram (does it detect dcis just as well)?
