Recipes and Your Favorite Meat Substitute

Re: Recipes and Your Favorite Meat Substitute
Yummy recipes, I'll try a couple out. Generally I replace meat w/many different beans, tofu, & veggis. Most Indian food is big on flavor w/o meat. I try to go meatless several times a week.

Hi Karen,
Awesome link and found great recipes here so thanks for the share. Will try with raw carrot cake style cheesecake and will share my reviews soon with you. Diet plays important role in meeting our fitness goals so we must watch what we eat and exercise regularly for healthy and active lifestyle. |
Re: Recipes and Your Favorite Meat Substitute
This reminds me of the vegetarian food offered in the Buddha's temples while I was growing up. Mother would order vegie chiken, vegie duck, and other 'meat' made of dried tofu from a temple nearby. And the textures and tastes really resembled chicken/duck/other meat. They were way better than the so-called 'meat substitute' sold in the supermarket.
Those were special treats. On the daily basis, Mother often would have a pot of stewed meat with boiled eggs in it. Seaweeds were sometimes cooked together besides dried (brown-colored) tofu squares. It's customary for night owls to eat a light 'before mid-night' snack constituted with the stewed dried tofu/meat/egg and a shot of whiskey or a can of beer. Around 11pm~mid-night, people gather at many so-called 'night markets' in the metropolitan areas as well as small towns. There are even high end restaurants offering similar entrees at 2, 3 times the price. |
Re: Recipes and Your Favorite Meat Substitute
Has anyone seen/read the Forks Over Knives documentary? I have not seen the film but got an opportunity to look at the book and website. I don't agree fully with the diet but with the overall concept and the book had some great recipes. They recommend eliminating fish and dairy completely. I believe fish can be a healthy part of the diet. Overall they recommend a plant based diet.

I really like seitan. I also use a lot of nuts in my main course dishes, such as Couscous with Spinach and Brazil Nuts or Pasta with Sundried Tomatoes and Pecans.
