"University of Illinois researcher Elizabeth Jeffery has learned how to maximize the cancer-fighting power of broccoli. It involves heating broccoli just enough to eliminate a sulfur-grabbing protein, but not enough to stop the plant from releasing an important cancer-fighting compound called sulforaphane..."

Hi Lolly,

Broccoli also contains DIM and I3C, two anto estrogen chemicals. I3C metabolizes into DIM (the active compound) is available in most health food stores. DIM has been shown to active augment the effacy of tamoxifen. Some people prefer DIM supplementation over I3C because I3C may activate dioxin receptors and isnot recommended for people living near refineries of petro-chemical plants.

Here are some links:

Here's 35 (yes, 35) short technical summaries of it's actions:

Al, I wonder how DIM supplementation would affect someone not using Tamoxifen because of not being ER/PR positive? Guess I'll have to do some more research now :)

Lolly,
Here's a recent summary of DIM's benefits for leukemia patients. I wonder if this applies to Lola?

Aloha,
I read that broccoli is one of the best things breast cancer survivors can eat. It has all the helpful chemicals mentioned in the previous posts. I also read that olive oil helps to enhance the activity of Herceptin and may help tos reduce the Her 2 problem. Sprinkle a little olive oil on lightly cooked broccoli. Humm. Great tasting and healthy.
