Side Effects question -please help

Hi- First let me thank you for this website. I truly appreciate it. I was diagnosed 7/14/08 with invasive ductal carcinoma. I am HER pos but not estrogen pos. I am having chemo first and then surgery. Taking THC-once every three weeks and Herceptin every week. Good news is tumor shrunk after first THC treatment. However after the THC treatment and the Neulasta shot I have blood in my urine for a couple days? Has anyone else experienced this- I am worried about the chemo damaging my kidneys. I go for my third THC this Tuesday and will speak to my dr again. I had urinalysis after it happened the second time and xray which showed stones in my ureeter. But I didn't have kidney stone pain and have no history of them.

Ok- sorry this is long but here is last question- do these medicines cause fluid retention or feet swelling?

Thanks so much and take care.

Gracies Mom
First of all, if you have stones, it is very common for you to have blood in the urine....some of the stones, depending on their composition, have little cusps on them, that irritate the tissue and cause the blood. The stones are usually only painful when they are moving...or stuck, like in a ureter as it is a long narrow tube leading from the kidney to the bladder. Stones can be "blasted" with ultrasonic waves depending on their makeup... has the Dr recommended anything or are they just waiting to see if you pass them...this depends on size also. As far as the swelling, if you are getting steroids as a premend, and I am guessing you are if you are getting Taxol or Taxotere, you can get peripheral edema...swelling in the feet and legs...Are you drinking LOTS to flush your system, of the stones and the chemicals in the chemo?
Hope this has helped. I would ask the Dr. to see what the plans are for the stones!
