What to do with expensive drugs like Tykerb when they stop working

I have several unopened bottles. Each bottle costs about $3k. It seems like a sin to throw in the garage. Is there any organization that collects and makes use of these drugs for those in need?

Many times oncology nurses at your facility know of women in need. When I was switched from Tamoxifen to Arimidex, I was (and am) doing 3 month mail order and actually had 4 unopened Tamoxifen bottles which I gave them and they give them to ladies who are uninsured. Maybe your cancer center can do the same.

Becky,
I LOVE that idea!

Nancy,
You are so thoughtful to worry about this. If your nurses can't do it, I'd be happy to check and my center to see if they'd handle it. The thought of any woman needing Tykerb, and not getting it because of the cost...makes me very, very sad.

I also give all of my left over med. to my onco. nurses who in turn give to people with no prescription coverage. This also includes but not limited to pain meds. anti inflam. , AI, you name it I donate it. I use medco mail order so they always send 90 days worth so I have been able to give a good amount when something does not work for me.

Here in Ireland we bring any unused or unwanted meds to the pharmacy but Beckys idea sounds much better and I agree these should not be wasted.

I've given my unused tykerb to the oncologist - they always know someone who can use it while awaiting insurance approval. I guess I should do the same with my leftover xeloda.
