Desensitization protocol

Just found this info and maybe the answer for me. Would have been nice if my doctor told me about the POSSIBILITY.
So grateful for the internet.

SCG

These procedures have been around for decades. I didnt know they were using them for chemos. Ill tell you the theory of them so you will understand more about them.

It really started with people allergic to penicillin. When a severly allergic penicillin patient gets penicillin by mistake you have an antibody reaction based on an antibody called IGE. There are a number of these IG antibodies ie IGM IGA and IGG. IGG is the famous gamma globulin.

It is the IGE antibodies that are involved in anaphylactic reactions. When you do a desensitization prodedure you give very low doses of the medicine to start. Each day you raise the dose slightly until you reach the therapeutic dose. You dont stop being allergic to the medication but by gradually increasing the dose slowly, you get an IGG reaction instead of an IGE reaction so there is no anaphylaxis. As long as you stay on the medicine after doing the desensitization your allergic reaction will stay IGG. If you stop it you go back to an IGE reaction with anaphylaxis. Hope this "lecture" is helpful. Merry Christmas to all

Re: Desensitization protocol

That makes so much sense. Even in my case, my titration starts out so very slow and at the hour mark, bumps up. The last reaction was not until about 18 mind in to the 240/240 infusion rate. It also makes sense that my reactions got worse after a long break this spring/summer.

Thank you so much for this unique “Christmas story”.
Merry Christmas and many many thanks!!
