Itching!!!

Can anyone help me with the itching. It is coming as my liver is failing and it is atrocious. I can not sleep at night, wake up clawing myself.
Some relief with Benadryl, Lidocaine/Prilocaine 2.5/2.5 or 4% Lidocaine, Lotions, but nothing lasts, even after cool showers.

I'm not on any chemo's anymore, probably bringing in Hospice soon, but really need some help with this. I swear, after two battles with this disgusting disease
this is one of the worse symptom's to tolerate.

Any suggestions will be tried!!

Thank you so much, Di

Re: Itching!!!

For the last year I have faced an itching problem too. I have tried all the lotions and potions and even prescription stuff. It does little to help. I went to a dermatologist and he said to take over the counter Loratadine 10 mg twice a day. It's for allergies and works pretty good to help my itching. You can get it at Walmart or Costco in the genetic brands fairly cheap too. Try it out and see if it helps.

Best wishes to you and I'll be praying for you. (((Hugs)))

Yes I am also thinking, it is related to allergy. So it would be better discuss with a good allergist.

One of the symptoms of liver disease is the excessive itching due to the liver not secreting the toxins and an accumulation of bile. Also issues of cholesterol building up. There is a drug called Questran which is used to treat the skin problems due to liver failure. It has some side effects too but may help you. It's prescription only so you'll need to talk to your dr. Good luck.

Re: Itching!!!

Good ole fashioned hydrocortisone cream might relieve some of the itching. It is usually available at most pharmacies without a prescription. You might also want to consider taking some milk thistle for your liver. It is available in supplement form at most health food stores.
You might want to consider seeing a naturopathic physician who might be able to help if you have liver or bile problems. That person might not be able to cure you, but might help reduce liver distress or help you with the itching.
All the best to you. Take good care of yourself and don't give up too soon.

Hi all, I notice that this is a very old post. I think TAMallick has perhaps not realised that or that it's not an allergy but due to liver failure
