Perjeta and TDM1
 

Can someone tell me if perjeta and TDM1 are the same med. I swore my moms oncologist said that yesterday and now confused after searching web. Thanks in advance to anyone who answers!

Hi KG, no definitely they are not the same drug. Not sure where you are in the world, but Perjeta, which is the trade name for Pertuzumab, is generally first line treatment now recommended (with a chemo), if the original diagnosis is at Stage IV, i.e., the cancer has moved beyond the breast to say, bones, lung, liver or brain.

TDM-1 or Kadcyla, the trade name for Trastuzumab emtansine, is generally recommended now for those at Stage IV who have had previous chemo and Herceptin, and have progressed.

Mind you, from what I read here, there are slightly different approaches, depending where you are, and which centre you attend. But definitely they are different drugs!

There are other women here who also have a lot of information about these two drugs, so they may chime in.

Well she is a little bit of both. Diagnosed with stage 4 with bone mets in 2011. Brain mets 2012. She is starting perjeta and stopping herceptin and flasodex. We are in Illinois but treated st Mayo clinic. Doc made comment that she would rec tdm1 and I said whet is that and she said generic for perjeta.obviously misunderstanding. Would they possibly be giving her both perjeta and tdm1
