***Glaxo starts test of Tykerb in early breast cancer***

I want to find out if having Herceptin prior would exclude some of us?

Teach

Thank you for the information. I am interested in this trial as I am the one that could not tolerate Herceptin ( Stopped at the 4th dosis) It seems that if you had Herceptin you are not allowed to participate.
Anybody knows if it is approved in Canada?

Lili7,

According to the article Dr. Kathleen Pritchard, Toronto, Canada is on the TEACH Steering Committee. That might be a good point to start research on whether it will be available in Canada

Lili7 - If you go to this link and scroll down, you'll see centers in Canada who are going to participate.

Tykerb

I think we will be able to qualify for Tykerb regardless of use of herceptin. Actually -if I remember it correctly- the combinatin of two are more effective than either one alone.. My onc does not believe I am in need of it, at this point but it's not oposed if I needed it....Best regards.

TYkerb info ~ Thank you note

Thank you all for answering ....What a wonderful group! I am pursuing Tykerb as I am the one who had the horrible neuropathy reaction after my 4th dosis with Herceptin.

Hugs all, Happy Holidays!

Any answer on whether herceptin disqualifies you from Tykerb trial?

Rhonada, Joe;

Any answer, perhaps from talking to GSK at SABC, whether herceptin use disqualifies one from participating in the TEACH trial of Tykerb in a nonmetastic, adjuvant setting? I would love to get in this trial, but from the website, it seems like you have to be Her2neu but NOT have used herceptin? I've called the phone no. for the trial (1-877-379-3718) but just get answering machine. Will also put a call into Dr. Minetta Liu at Georgetown who is listed as one of the researchers of the DC location of the trial, but would be grateful if anyone else has some info?

I am elgible for the Windber, PA vaccine trial, but don't want to start it, if a Tykerb trial were available. In that regard, am going to make a second post to see if anyone has insights on the peptide vs the DNA-based vaccine.

thanks,
Lynn in DC

In the TEACH trial, you cannot have used Herceptin and you must be Stage 1 - 3A.

I too have called the number several times. All you get is the answering machine. They called back twice on the same day, two different people left messages. Unfortunately, when you call back, you get the answering machine! I would love to know if I'm eligible.
