10 + years of Aromatase inhibitor

Hello all,

I have just changed oncologist due to location.

My prior oncologist was planning to keep me on an
Aromatase inhibitor for a few more Years. I'm at 10.9 years so probably until 13 years out.
Well my new oncologist says there are no
Studies to continue treatment , which is true, and she wants me to immediately stop the inhibitor.
My question - are any of you taking it longer
Than 10 years?
Thanks and hope all is going well for everyone!!!

I have been on Armidex for 11 years. There are ongoing studies comparing 10 years to 15 years but they won't have results for quite some time. My onc has me staying on HOWEVER, my bone density just started to decline and I was given a shot of Prolia. My onc said it's either the bone hardeners or no AI. So I took the shot. Have to get it every 6 months. I might weigh things in a couple of months and see

My Onc had me stop at eight years but then re start two years later when the results showed ten years better than five. I'm twelve years out this summer when I'm due to see her so not sure as yet if she'll want me to continue on or stop.

Re: 10 + years of Aromatase inhibitor

Hi All,

I stopped Anastrozole in November (after 10years) as the NHS in the UK will not fund longer use as it says there is no proof of further benefits. I am uncomfortable with this and am considering trying to buy anastrozole myself.

How many of you have taken 10+ years?

Have you noticed or been tested for side effects of prolonged use?

Is there any proof that really long term use is beneficial or is it all in the mind (as has been suggested to me!)

Thanks for any replies. Nancy

Hi All,
I am now on 11 years.
I am see my onc. in March. I am sure he will advise to stop AI since during my last visit he advised to stop.

My gut is telling me NOT to stop. I am going to follow my gut as i did back in 2005 when they said I could not have herceptin due to being stage 1.
Took it off label.

Will update after dr. visit.
