...with Xeloda

Whoo Hoo!
Quote from the article Rhonda posted. This means that more trials can start with this drug. Emphasis is mine.

"The regulator approved the once-daily pill in combination with Roche Holding AG's Xeloda for treatment of advanced breast cancer in women who carry the HER-2 gene and don't respond to Roche's Herceptin, London-based Glaxo said today in an e-mailed statement. Tykerb belongs to a class of drugs known as dual- kinase inhibitors, which impede the growth of tumor cells."
This would not prevent an onc from giving it "off label," but I expect most oncs to be conservative in this approach until more data or anecdotal info comes in.

Yipee!!!!!! Another weapon in our arsenal. I am so glad to finally hear that it has been approved. I am not sure at what point my onc. is going to use it, but I am sure she will.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Sure hope early stagers will be able to someday also get tykerb on board because of it's ability to cross the blood brain barrier since herceptin doesn't protect the brain at all.

Lolly 03-13-2007 10:27 PM

Yeah!!! I think this paragraph is really encouraging also:
"...In a separate statement, Glaxo said it will offer Tykerb for free to low-income Americans without health insurance. Patients enrolled in the Medicare plan for the elderly and disabled may also be eligible if they spend $600 a year on other drugs, Glaxo said...." <O:p</O:p<O:p</O:p
