New info

New information released yesterday - two forms of HER2+ breast cancer?

http://www.nih.gov/news/health/sep2012/nci-23.htm

I am a new member and have not created my profile yet. I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma - grade three, HER2 positive, Stage I in August 2012. I had bilateral mastectomies less than two weeks ago. I have appointments with two oncologists in the next two weeks. I'm sure I have a lot to learn as I begin this journey. I'm glad I found this forum.

Hi Nurse Pat,

To put your treatment history in the signature field, click on FAQ and then follow the link.

It was 9 years ago when I was diagnosed with a stage I, Grade three Her2 breast cancer. My doctor talked me out of having mastectomy and then the follow-up mammograms failed to detect the new growth out of the residue cells. Finally I went to the surgeon who did the lumpectomy and she's able to realize her mistake...

The treatment schedule has been evolving. Browse the 'Newly Diagnosed' Board to locate more recent trend in adjuvant therapy.

Welcome to the Board.

Pat - I had a similar diagnosis to yours - 2 1/2 years later am doing great. This forum/site has been a real blessing to me - well, I have to say that the people on this site are the blessings. Hoping you are healing well from the surgery. You may want to take a family member or friend with you to drs appts and let them take a few notes (I also wrote down all my questions before appts - I was usually so scared during appts my brain just locked up). Information is key to a successful fight against this terrible disease. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you NanaJoni. I am fortunate to have a lot of support. I have two oncologists to see in the next two weeks and will be bringing my husband, son and sister to both appointments. I am glad I found this site - there are a lot of brave women on this site from what I've read.
